Sunken Road
|
The Sunken Road was a clay road used by farmers and worn down by years of wagons and rain. 2600 confederate soldiers were positioned along the road waiting for the 5000 Union soldiers to come over the hill. For three hours there was a raging battle. The road became soaked in blood as Union and Confederate soldiers fought along this road where causalities mounted to 5000. Considered one of the bloodiest battles in the the Civil War, the road became known as Bloody Lane.
