Silverton, Colorado is one of the highest towns in the United States, at 9,305 feet (2,836 m) above sea level. Silverton was founded in 1874 following the Brunot Treaty with the Utes. Mining was the primary business until the mid twentieth century. Tourism is the main industry today.
