Captain Von Bachelle’s Grave

Captain Werner von Bachelle was of the Sixth Wisconsin Brigade. He brought his dog to battle with him. He taught his dog how to perform a military salute and other tricks. When Captain Werner von Bachelle was wounded in the battle of Antietam his body was found on the battlefield with his dog guarding his owner’s body. The dog had been shot and killed in battle.
